RTSP Mixer

Home Assistant, go2rtc and Frigate

Updated October 16, 2026 · Deutsche Fassung

If you run Home Assistant, your cameras are often already in go2rtc or Frigate. Both pass each camera on as its own RTSP stream. RTSP Mixer takes these restreams just like a camera, and that has advantages.

Why use a restream

The URL

go2rtc serves each stream under its name on port 8554. If the stream is called nursery in the configuration:

rtsp://192.168.1.10:8554/nursery

In RTSP Mixer: Add camera, choose Custom URL under Model, enter the URL. If you set a user and password for go2rtc's RTSP output, they go into their own fields.

Frigate has go2rtc built in. The cameras from its go2rtc: streams: section are available at rtsp://<frigate>:8554/<name> as well.

The go2rtc built into Home Assistant itself is usually reachable only from Home Assistant. For other devices, use the go2rtc add-on, your own go2rtc or Frigate.

From version 1.2: HTTP and RTMP

From version 1.2, RTSP Mixer also takes continuous MPEG-TS streams over HTTP(S) and RTMP(S). go2rtc serves MPEG-TS for example at

http://192.168.1.10:1984/api/stream.ts?src=nursery

That helps where RTSP does not get through, for example behind a reverse proxy that only passes HTTP.

Turn the camera through Home Assistant

If Home Assistant can pan a camera, so can RTSP Mixer: in the camera editor under Advanced › Camera control, choose Home Assistant and pick the camera entity. The app suggests matching buttons for pan, tilt, presets and night vision. Enter a long-lived access token once and you are done. The details are in Support.

On Apple TV

With iCloud sync on, cameras, views and even the Home Assistant address and token come from the iPhone to the Apple TV without typing anything there. The cameras cannot be turned there; that stays with iPhone, iPad and Mac.

RTSP Mixer shows up to nine IP cameras side by side and mixes their audio, on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. One camera is free, the full wall is a one-time purchase, no subscription.
