Something not working, or a wish?
Write to business@dpeuscher.de. Helpful: the camera model, what the tile says, and whether other cameras are affected at the same time.

Adding a camera

On first launch, tap Add camera. Later you find the same button behind the list button in the bar at the bottom. Pick your make under Model, and the app fills in the path of the address, so only the host name, user name and password are left. Templates exist for eufy, Tenda, Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink and Axis. The ones not yet checked on a real camera are marked as such.

If your model is not listed, choose Custom URL and enter the full RTSP address, for example rtsp://192.168.1.64:554/stream1. Most cameras show it in their own app or web interface under “RTSP”.

When a tile stays dark

Which cameras work

Anything that speaks RTSP, over TCP or UDP, with H.264 or H.265 video and AAC, G.711 or L16 audio. Digest or Basic authentication. From version 1.2 also continuous MPEG-TS streams over HTTP(S) and RTMP(S), for example from go2rtc or your own server.

You do not need to know the address: Search the network finds whatever answers on the usual RTSP ports in your own network and sets up control for ONVIF cameras right away. For eufy, Tenda, Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink and Axis, templates fill in the address. The paths are also listed under RTSP URLs for IP cameras.

Views

A view is a saved selection of cameras plus a column count, so one tap switches between “Night” and “Garden”. Cameras outside the active view are disconnected, so they burden neither the network nor the camera. The order inside the view decides where a camera sits on the wall, top left first.

Audio

Every camera runs into the same mix. Volume and mute are per camera on the tile; one button in the bar silences everything. The device's volume buttons control the shared output.

With the screen locked the audio keeps running but the video does not. In that state the app fetches only the audio track, which saves battery and data. A camera you only need to hear, a baby monitor for instance, can stay on Audio only for good. It is a switch in the camera editor.

When the picture judders

Lowest latency in the settings shows every frame the moment it arrives. On an unsteady Wi-Fi that can judder. Switch it off, and the app keeps a small buffer instead: a steadier picture with a little more delay. The setting can also be changed for a single camera in its editor.

One camera free, the wall once

One camera runs free for as long as you like. Several cameras at once, with their audio mixed, run for one minute after every start of the app. After that one camera keeps running and the other tiles show a lock. In Picture in Picture, which iPhone and iPad offer, the locked cameras show the same lock.

A single purchase removes that minute for good. There is no subscription. It is under Settings › Several cameras at once, together with Restore purchase for a new device or after reinstalling. The purchase belongs to your Apple Account and also applies on your iPad, Apple TV and Mac.

Setting up the Apple TV

Addresses cannot sensibly be typed on a television, so the easiest setup comes from an iPhone or iPad.

Both devices must be signed in to the same Apple Account. The sync never deletes anything; only additions and changes travel. A camera can also be typed in directly on the television if that is preferred; either way works, and both stay in step once the switch is on.

On the television a swipe up reveals the bar with views, “mute all” and settings; a long press on a tile offers mute, pause and reconnect.

Turning a camera: ONVIF and Home Assistant

A camera with a motorised head can be turned from the app in full screen: pan, tilt, saved positions and night vision, where the camera offers them. Cameras that speak ONVIF are turned directly, no extra setup beyond entering the ONVIF port in the camera editor. Cameras without ONVIF (eufy, for instance) can be turned through Home Assistant instead, if Home Assistant itself can turn them.

Set-up is in two places:

  1. In Home Assistant, get the camera under control there first. Cameras with a native integration (Reolink, Tapo, Amcrest and others) usually expose button.* entities for pan/tilt and a select.* for presets out of the box. For eufy Security, the eufy_security custom integration (installed through HACS) exposes exactly that. If a camera has no integration at all, a Home Assistant script or automation that ends up as a button or select entity works just as well. The app does not care what is behind it.
  2. In the app, under the camera's Advanced › Camera control, choose Home Assistant, pick the camera entity, and the app suggests the matching pan/tilt, preset and night vision entities from the same device. Each one can be changed by hand. A long-lived access token from Home Assistant (profile › Security) goes into Settings › Home Assistant once, for every camera. With iCloud sync on, the address and the token reach your other devices on their own, including an Apple TV, which has no screen for them.

Holding an arrow in the app repeats the underlying button call for as long as it is held, just like pressing it in Home Assistant's own dashboard.

Removing the token, and revoking it

Clearing the token field removes it from that device only. Your other devices keep theirs, and so does the copy in your iCloud account. A deliberate deletion is not treated as an instruction to lock the other devices out. What a deletion therefore does not do is make the token stop working: it stays valid until you revoke it in Home Assistant, under your profile › Security › Long-lived access tokens. That is the only place where a token is really withdrawn.

A token you have revoked there is recognised as such: when two devices are set up with different addresses or tokens, the app tries both and keeps the one that works. A revoked token is reported as rejected rather than as working, and a working access is never replaced silently. If neither can be reached, for instance because the phone has no network at that moment, nothing is changed at all and the device keeps what was entered on it.
